What Steps Do I Need to Complete for UAN Activation?
To avail of the EPF services, you need to do UAN Activation, which can be done if you follow the below steps –
- Visit the Unified Member Portal
- Below the login section, you’ll see the ‘Activate UAN’ button
- Click the button
- Now, you’ll be redirected to a new page
- Enter the UAN number
- Select state and office
- Enter Aadhaar, PAN number, name, date of birth, mobile number, email address
- Click on ‘Get Authorization Pin’
- Enter the received OTP
- Click on ‘Validate’
Your UAN will be activated now and the password is sent to your mobile. So, use that and do UAN Login on your mobile to use the available services.
How to do PF Balance Check with UAN Login?
You can check your PF balance without any trouble via UAN login. For this, take a look at the below steps –
- Visit the Unified Portal
- Click on ‘Member Passbook’
- Enter your UAN and password
- Solve a mathematical problem
- Click on ‘Login’
- Select your member ID and see your passbook
The passbook will contain the details of your account balance, such as employee contributions, employer contributions, and pension contributions.
Check PF Balance without UAN Login
If your UAN is activated, know about the latest PF contribution and check the balance by sending an SMS to the EPF number from your registered mobile number.
SMS “EPFOHO UAN” to 7738299899.
The default message will be English, but you can receive the same in the language you prefer. For receiving the same in a language other than English, enter the first three characters of the preferred language in the SMS.
For example,
“EPFOHO UAN TEL” to 7738299899
Now, you’ll receive the SMS in Telugu
Note – Send the SMS from the registered mobile number of UAN. When you send an SMS for the PF balance check query, the EPFO sends the last PF contribution and balance details along with your available KYC information.

What if I Change My Mobile Number?
If you’re no longer using the mobile registered on the Unified Portal Member, update the same by following the below steps –
- Go to the login page, enter your UAN, password, captcha
- Click on the ‘Manage Details’ button
- Click on the ‘Contact Details’ as appeared on the drop-down
- Now, you will be redirected to the contact update page
- Select ‘Mobile Number’ from the available options
- Enter your new mobile number twice
- Click on the ‘Get OTP’ button
- You’ll get an OTP on your new mobile number, enter the same
- Click on ‘Validate’
- Now, your new mobile number is on the portal
From now on you’ll receive all the notifications related to your EPF account on your new mobile. So, if you change your mobile, update the same on the EPF portal.
What are the Consequences of Not Updating the Contact Details?
If you won’t update your contact details, the following can happen:
Identity Theft
So when your old mobile number is assigned to a new user., he/she can use the information of your EPF account and steal all your money. As you know, when a mobile number is deactivated, it will be provided to a new user. So, if you want to secure your PF account, ensure the details are up to date on the portal.
Miss Important Notifications
Your old mobile deactivates, so if the EPF tries to send any notification related to your account on your mobile, you won’t receive the same.
